Making the beat: “Cold Back Hand”
I really wasn’t in a good mood when I got up to work on this beat…I just needed to release the frustration.  I was looking through some oldies for inspiration; I’d say in the end “Painkiller” by Judas Priest and going through some beats with Dawaun Parker earlier that day brought out the sound in this record.
Production wise, my main focus was on the drums to hit the listener fast but heavy.  I layered 3 kicks plus a faint 808 under it to give it some body.  Next was the screams strangely enough and the rest was continuing off the eerie motif.  If any indication, you can hear I got the anger out with how hard I was hitting the keys for the piano stabs!
*Note* I used to love finding secrets in video games like that ‘up up down down left right left right b a start’ code in Contra for NES.  Try playin Grafh ft. Raekwon & Probz “Cold Back Hand” backwards!
